Recommended Hummingbird Feeders & Accessories

While there are many styles of hummingbird feeders out there, some are definitely more popular with the little birds than others. Here are three recommended hummingbird feeders that are easy to assemble, easy to clean, and seem to attract hummingbirds the best. Plus, don’t forget an ant trap and some great brushes to help keep those feeders clean.

Feeders

The Audubon 12-ounce Hummingbird Feeder has a round nectar well around a central hook, with an ant guard in the middle. The red top fits right down over the clear plastic bottom, and it has a ring for perching. Wasps don’t bother it unless some nectar has spilled over the side. Small birds will even sometimes drink from the ant well. This feeder will last for years and hummingbirds love it.

The Homestead 12-ounce Hummingbird Feeder is an upside-down, leak-proof, bottle-style feeder that screws into a cap that can be permanently attached to a hook or chain on a tree limb. The yellow plastic flowers are removable and easy to clean, and offer a deterrent to insects. The feeder comes in two styles: one with clear glass and one tinted red.

Ant Trap

Protect your feeder from marauding ants with a water cup like this Trap-It Moat Ant Trap. Ants don’t like to cross water, so if you find they’re climbing down the hanging rod straight into your feeder, hang the ant moat between the two. Fill often, especially in summer, when the water tends to evaporate quickly. And don’t be surprised if small backyard birds try to take a drink from it now and again.
